The Shellback pairs two molded plywood shells, one for the seat and one for the back, with black vinyl pads set into each. The walnut-veneer edges show all round, so the chair has the warmth of a wood chair while the frame underneath is a slim black steel base that takes daily knocks.
Construction. Powder-coated steel legs and seat frame; molded plywood seat and back shells in walnut-tone veneer with a clear PU lacquer; upholstered pads over high-resilience foam in black contract vinyl; back joined to the frame on a single steel spine.
Cleaning. The pads sit inside raised wood rims, so spills tend to stay on the surface and wipe off rather than running into seams. A quick pass with a cloth and sanitizer covers the whole chair.
Replacement cost. Pads are fixed from behind or below and can be replaced on site; the steel frame and shells stay in service.
Where it works. Fast casual dining rooms with a darker palette, ramen and bowl concepts, burger and chicken concepts with a warm-modern interior, and window rows facing the street.
Options. Pad color, veneer tone (walnut, oak, black), frame color, glides. Foam specified to CAL TB 117-2013 on request.
Note. It does not stack. For rooms that clear the floor nightly, choose a stacking steel chair.
